Well it sure has been a while since the last update. Sorry for the lack of activity lately but some times life simply gets in the way. But a lot has been going on behind the scenes. A huge apology to all of you that have emailed and have not yet received a response. You should expect a response as time permits.
It was decided that the Forum and Gallery will open up into their own windows to help support the many updates that are made to each piece of software. Due to these updates it can have a profound effect on the technical functionality of the main site and possibly “break” things. So it is better to be safe than sorry and not have to spend countless hours “fixing” things.
Now on to more interesting things… Some portions of www.bachelorsgrove.com will be removed and transfered over here. There are/were many things that simply did not belong on a web site intended to be focused on being an archive for research purposes. Material no longer available over there will remain missing but again it will be transfered over here. Some material however, may not come back due to being outdated but we shall see what happens.
As stated before a lot has been going on behind the scenes and most of it is boring technical web development. Most of which is on changing the entire cosmetic appearance of www.bachelorsgrove.com and although it is a separate web site it still warrants some discussion over here. Some of you that have emailed recently, as well as in the past, about how ugly and boring it is should get some relief. Sorry about that but it was more of a concern that material was “available” rather than how the material was presented cosmetically. Speaking of available, yes there are some broken links found from time to time and they are being fixed as they are noticed. But all of that should be taken care of anyway once the new “look” has arrived. The new look may not end up being totally spectacular but it should be a lot more pleasant to the eyes.
As far as the Podcast is concerned there has not been a single email expressing interest in it once it was listed on the site. This was surprising and is the primary reason why there has been no real developments. More equipment was purchased but until there is more public interest a Podcast materializing in the near future is looking grim. Having discussions with visitors while out at the cemetery does give a little hope so maybe it is simply a matter of nobody being interested enough to email about it. There is the possibility of just doing 5-10 minute Podcasts for the sake of getting recent developments out to the public but as far as doing lengthy interviews that will have to wait.
Those of you that have used the Feedback phone line to place prank phone calls have been interesting. But that has not been the intention of making it available. That is why, for the moment at least, the Grove Restoration Project no longer has a phone number to call. In the past the mailbox would be full of pranks that you couldn’t even understand anyway. But there sure has been a lot less pranking on the phone line lately much like there has been a lot less vandalism out at the cemetery in recent years.
Of course there is more to talk about but it is time to get back to work and make some more progress in different areas.
