Podcast

Back in 1999 a radio format was envisioned for Bachelors Grove cemetery. It’s primary purpose was to allow the collection of personal stories from visitors to grow and preserve them. Of course there were many other ideas such as possibly getting in touch with relatives of those buried at the cemetery in order to gain further insight into the lives of those that have past on. Realistically, getting any sort of air time and making it productive would have been a waste of time and money. There needed to be a way for listeners, nationally or world wide, to hear any such radio broadcast and in their own spare time. Having a direct audio download via the Internet could have worked and was almost attempted but there didn’t appear to be any real public interest at the time so there would have been a lot of energy directed toward something that may have been a complete failure. |
Fast forward a few years and we now have Podcasting, a new way of providing audio content that can be waiting for listeners when they literally wake up out of bed! The doors have now opened and it is about time that Bachelors Grove cemetery gets its own radio format, or at least something similar to it.
Through the remainder of 2009 until the end of 2010 the Bachelors Grove cemetery podcast will, hopefully, take shape into a functional venue for those who wish to participate on all different types of subject matter relating to the cemetery. The current goal is not only to create a productive podcast to learn from but create one in such a way that allows for monthly editions and is entertaining enough to draw in new listeners who may have more information to contribute.
At the moment most of the equipment necessary to produce a podcast has been purchased but the setup it is not yet complete. We anticipate most interviews to be done over the telephone so only high quality audio will be acceptable. We can currently provide broadcast quality telephone interviews but any high quality on-site interviews is still a work in progress. The only big obstacle right now is a room quiet enough for a condenser microphone. It is possible that a small sound proof studio will be created by renting out some space.
So as time passes we will provide updates on our progress. In the meantime we would like to see people send us email or leave us messages on the Feedback Line about what topics they would like to hear as well as which group or individual would make a great interview.
