Buckthorn Removal
« on: September 06, 2010, 12:17:04 PM »
Just a heads up...

The Forest Preserve District is currently reviewing a plan for the GRP to go in and remove Buckthorn from the main path to the cemetery and around the pond.

HOORAY!!

Is it just a cleanout being discussed? Or something more like a cut down and burn stuff, and herbicide the suckers?

Hey, Im new to this website and forum but have recently moved back to the chicago area after living in michigan for a number of years. I would really be interested in helping any cleanup efforts. I'm a certified firefighter 1&2 in michigan and i know that doesnt mean squat in illinois due to the laws but i could def help out with brush burning projects. I am up for any kind of volunteering these days as i have loads of free time. Any info would be appreciated on how to get involved

Being a firefighter is a perfect fit for helping to burn all the brush! If you want to be kept updated on all of the events be sure to send in your contact information via email. Details are available here:

I made another call today about the approval and was told to call back next week for any updates. Once we have an answer I'll be sure to spread the word.

Welcome back to Chicago! :)
