Buying BG
« on: December 19, 2006, 02:22:25 AM »
I have a friend who made a contact with Cook County about the possibilty of buying the Grove. He was told that he needed to research it to see if it was possible to purchase a cemetery from the County. Since it is county owned it is diffrent than buying a cemetery from a company or individual. The question I have is i thought it was no longer a cemetery per say and just preserve land. He was also told that they would not asisst him with any info and he had to do all of the rearch himself or through a attorney. They made it very clear the Grove is a dying item and were of zero help. His intention were to restore it and if able to reopen it as a cemetery with further burials. My question to everyone is would you be  buried there if you could be.

I personally think that the whole buying BG and using it for future burials is a load of bs.

First of all, no one knows exactly where everyone is buried there exactly, and second of all, whenever people seem to want to buy the cemetery it is mainly due to a possibility of making money for personal gain.

There are too many people out there who are interested in the cemetery as a finacial gain as opposed to being truely interested in restoring it.

All in all most people would like to turn it into a paranormal theme park.

What a better way to make some money than to turn BG, named as one of the most haunted cemeteries in the world, into private property to the highest bidder, who therefor will turn around and cut the rest of the world off from being able to visit unless they are willing to pay a fee of some kind.

True, I wouldn't mind being buried there but there is no room ! I don't want to be buried on top of someone unknown and desecrete the resting place of someone else.

dumb idea.. sorry, no offense but i agree with skunky on this one.. i think if it were fully restored and new burials took place there it would only become more popular and then become desecrated again over time. i honestly think the best thing for the grove is for its popularity to die out.. as bad as that sounds. to be honest, i think they should plant some trees in front of the path and pretend its not there so more people wont find out about it. the only people that should rightfully be visiting the grove anyway are the family members of the people buried there.

If it was possible, im sure that it would be much more money than your fiend could afford or be willing to spend.  Either way the financial loss would outway his good intentions.
