horse
« on: August 09, 2006, 02:07:38 PM »
I've heard a horse on several occasions. one time, we were walking down the trail during daytime hours and we heard a horse whinny. There was about 9 of us that day who heard it. Also one night when I was in the graveyard with my cousin, we heard a horse trotting. It sounded like it was coming up the trail toward the entrance of the cemetery. It was getting louder and louder and then stopped. Nothing scares my cousin and this freaked him out! There has also been a dog that has run across the path right in front of us at night. it just runs across the path and goes into the woods. it's a small, dark dog that comes about up to my shins. One night, we heard a cat meowing...although it was probably just a cat, not a ghost or anything. I've heard stories about the phantom horse and dog though. anyone have any similar experiences?

A friend of mine and I were there one night when there was no one else around.  He heard the sound of horse hooves and motioned me to come over to where he standing.  It was faint, but I heard it too.  We were near the lagoon on the side of the overpass and there was no traffic at the time.  We were taping, but the sound was not captured.  I have not seen a dog nor heard one on the path.  We'll be looking for him though.

I just hear random dog barks once in awhile.  Most seem normal, but some come from what seems to be too deep in the woods...  Never seen any, though.

Some friends of mine recently went to the grove at night and heard dogs barking for most of the time that they were in the cemetary.  As for dogs being heard in the woods, people sometimes release their dogs into the forest as a way of getting rid of them.  I've seen packs of dogs running in the forest around 107th and LaGrange last winter.

You might also be seeing/hearing coyote's.  They have made a strong come back, and are in most of the preserves, as well as the suburban back yards.
The "dog" described at the begining of this thread sounds like one.  Medium in size, usually pretty skinny.  Very active at just before dawn, and from dusk into the night.
Here's pic of one taken in Country Lane Woods, a cook county preserve.

Nothing to fear, as they will usually avoid humans like the plauge.   But with all the garbage and small game in the area, there is a strong attraction for them.

the dog is smaller than a coyote and the sound of a horse trotting or even gallapping very fast toward the entrance of the cemetery cannot be mistaken.

The dogs are explainable. There are several houses to the east of BG. They have dogs. They are barking quite often. Sound travels well at night through the woods. Then as others have mentioned. The coyotes are back in full swing. I have seen more this year then I have ever seen before. They sound exactly like dogs. Now for the horse sounds. Myself and a friend have heard a horse directly behind us. Turned to find nothing. This I cannot explain!

I agree, the coyotes themselves sound exactly like dogs. Speaking of, I have to get around to putting up a clip I have of one that was barking right outside the gates to the cemetery.

Would there be an easy way to tell me the area where you heard the horse or would you need a map?

Heard the horse. Not the hoof sounds, but the clearing of its throat. The whinny . Was so clear. Seemed to be right behind us. We were in the creek. Directly west behind the cemetery. Then we also heard it down alittle ways when we were further down across the creek. exactly where the trail would start to go to the silo foundations. This was not a vague sound. This was perfectly clear. when we turned each time we figured we would see a person on a horse. This by far was a very hair standing and strange event. The best part was that there was two of us. Not one doubt in either of our minds.  We have alot of things on tape and video. Just waiting to see if anyone else has anything similiar. There are different kinds of spirits. Wanting to find anyone whom has heard a message from a young girl. We were lucky enough to have her on tape asking us a question. The best part of this is the recorder is on video at the time of the message.

Thanks for the update!

When you have some free time if you could browse this list of horse noises and post a link to the one that resembles what you heard that would be perfect.

Between the first two sounds in the sigh recordings! Now I am going to ask friend and see if he gives the same answer...
