I'm new, and instead of responding to a few old threads, I decided to start a new one...
There was a thread about wierdos in the woods... Just wanted to remind folks that are scoffing at the thought of satanic praticioners... Chicago was the birthplace of the founder of the church of satan (Anton Levey, born on the site where now stands the John Hancock building), and as such, it has a special value to those people. And yes, they do wear designer labels or not, ride on the "el" with the rest of us, and practice their beliefs all over the place. In fact, there is a relatively large host of different types of practiconers and enthusiasts that would find BG a good spot for reasons ranging from the innocently curious to downright nefarious and nasty ones.
BG is such a high profile hit for paranormal folks now it is doubtful that any praticioners would be doing anything in the area, but that does not mean that anyone out there isn't dangerous, if only because they don't want to be caught out there illegally.
I suppose anyone going out to an abandoned cemetery in the woods could be considered a wierdo if they don't have a family member buried there or are a person sanctioned to do so doing their job.
A note about EVP in the woods... pretty much anything caught is worthless in the end... as someone that has done non-spooky multiple person activities in large wooded areas can tell you.. sound carries far further and much more oddly than one would expect. Tree growth density and topography lend major factors in creating "sound corridors". This can make sounds carry and/or deflect into coming from a direction where the sound did not originate. The carrying of sounds is especially true over water. With residences in the area, and some car owners having "supersonic" systems putting out music, the area is just too contaminated for credible EVP work.
My two cents worth: Orbs and most mists are not credible either- there are just too many natural reasons for them. And "hidden people" pictures are a lot more natural formation we want to believe is spooky than something that is. There has been enough scary good things recorded out of BG, to enhance footage for things that aren't spooky at all, and I hope there will be plenty more.
Dog owners: animals have been seen time and again to react to things we don't register with our senses.... but they poop (and not everyone is responsible and has respect for the next fellow that steps there), and BG is an area with 130+ years of human refuse, and it isn't too safe for unwary feet/paws without protection. Broken bits of things abound, both from the days of refuse pits and from more modern litterers. Besides, there's all sorts of nature like burrs and thorns to get caught in furry coats.
Has anyone had odd dealings with other people in BG? Have had odd experiences since taking random things off site with them? Have there been any recent reports of "ghost cars" in the area, either on the path area, or into the woods extending where the old road was?
Though I may be stepping on administrator's toes, I wholeheartedly encourage people to post, even if their experience seems trivial, or the thread that sparked interest is old- there are tons more viewing hits than there are postings, and it is good to share.
