New Forum Topic?
« on: October 21, 2009, 07:19:41 AM »
Just wondering... Would it be a good idea to put up a new forum header with the topic of the history of the BG area? I know there is a ton of info out there... It could be a place where people tell stories of what was supposed to be going on way back when :D  I know I would be enriched by it!

cheers

I would enjoy this as well. I would really love to hear stories of the old settlement when the cemetery was brand new.

Considering the age of the area I don't think we'll find many people still alive that will be able to speak about the area when it was "new" :) The best we have is the old newspaper articles and family members building their family trees.

But we still have a chance at hearing about things from the 1960s. By now those visitors would be about 60 to 70 years old. Considering the age bracket, we just have to hope that they are interested enough to use computers and find their way to the forum. Visiting the cemetery, however, gives us a much better chance at speaking with the new "old timers" and I always have a blast when I run into them! Very fun indeed! They really help validate some of the information that I come across later on paper or using arial photography too.

Pete

haha well I certainly didn't mean to suggest we find someone who was alive in the 1830's to tell us! But maybe some descendants or local historians who have stories :)
