anyone feel drawn back to it after visiting?
« on: September 21, 2006, 11:14:59 AM »
The weird thing with me and Bachelor's Grove is that I have this strange feeling that makes me want to keep revisiting the cemetery after a couple uneventful visits.  On my 2 visits there I saw nothing out of the ordinary, only a feeling of being watched on my way out, so i definately felt the energy of the place, but other than that i found it boring.  However, in the following days/weeks following my visits I continue to think about the cemetery for no particular reason and visit the website frequently even though i've already read it all.  It has been a good 6 months since my last visit and I feel this need that I want/need to go back there.  It's as if some force is drawing me back to the place.  Obviously people who post here have an interest in Bachelor's Grove, but I wanted to ask if anyone has similar feelings about this place.

I also get that feeling.  I always want to record more and take more pics.  I haven't been there in a couple of months, though.

I actually live within 10 minutes driving distance of Bachelors Grove Cemetery.  I have been there several times in my life. I was even there at 3am.  I have never seen anything out of the norm while I was there.  I did, however, get a weird feeling there but nothing more.

I think that the combination of the history of BG along with the fact that there is so many things that possibly happen could make someone be drawn to the place.

I personally had been reading up on BG for many years before I actually did visit, and when I did I just was so intrigued by it that I just had to go back...quite frequently.

Then again, I have grown up with a love of cemeteries so to me it was just more of a special place for me.  I always feel so comfortable and at home when I am there.  I love every aspect about the cemetery and I find the beauty that it possesses all around me, whether it be in the plants and animals that grow and change with the season or the wear of the aging headstones.

In any event, I find that for  many others, the cause of the draw is more or less the fact that it is one of THE most haunted cemeteries in the world, and nothing more.

haha ya i get the same feelings. I just love it there though.  I always want to go back the next day, but i never can.  I live kind of far.  I thinks its because of the history as well.  Everything about it is so interesting.

On Monday, i went to the cemetery for the first time with my boyfriend and two friends.  I read an article about the cemetery in my schools newspaper and was very interested. I am known as a big scardy cat.  Although, the paranormal stuff REALLY interests me.  Going there, we didnt really see anything.  I have yet to get my pictures developed. But i did get an uneasy feeling being there.  At night, just thinking about it i do tend to scare myself....yet everyday i just want to go back there.  I do have to agree...there is something about this cemetery that draws people back to it.  We were there for only a half hour and i hope to go back there for more.

Yeah.. I get the feeling to go back too... and I act on it whenever I can. The haunting part was what got me to go.. however... it's the history that keeps bringing me back. I also have the desire to help maintain the site as much as i can.. like rubbing spray paint of gravestones.. that's the one thing I really don't get. I don't know who get's off on that, but it's kinda disgusting.

Me and my friends discovered the wonders of the Grove about two months ago, and for our video editting class final project, we are going to do a documentary on none other than, Bachelor's Grove.  I've simply been amazed by it's past, and will respect the land.  I won't be surprised if i find myself getting drawn back sometime after this visit.

that's leet dude ;) I saw a documentary on Bachelor's Grove done on youtube, it got props but I definitely think it could be improved upon, might be cool if we could get a group together over winter-spring-summer break to hit up all aspects of the site and put together a huge vid.

I def. want to do soemthing like that I am 100% in for it. Pete is it possible for you to get in contact with the Police and forest preserve to grant us permission. If we all give our names and things I am sure it would work. Has anyone ever met a guy there that said he lived back there?

Pete and I also have been in contact about the Investigation.  I'll try to get information for permission at night.  It would be smart for us to meet beforehand as a group to plan everything out, too.  Talk to you all soon.

I want to record both day and night.  Have people tell some of the stories, explore the whole place, etc.  I was thinking we should plan it over Winter and then actually record it in the Spring sometime...

well.. most of us appear to be around the Chicago area.. wouldn't be difficult to meet up some where in winter and lay out plans for a video... also gives time to contact the forest preserve to get permission. Seeing as how our objective is good.. I doubt they'd have a problem with it.

I didn't get any weird vibes.  Looked back on the path several times hoping to get some glimpse of anything...I'm drawn back to expierence something.  I've had experiences in the past (not at BG though) so I was a little suprised to not get anything.  But damnit I'll keep trying.

The first time I went, I felt nothing.  The next year, it usually got better each time.  The creepiest time was at dusk.  My friend and I were the only ones on the path and it was DEAD silent.  I felt nervous.  As soon as we got in the cemetary though, everything felt at peace and calm.  It was weird...  And I will keep you all updated on the investigation.  Maybe we could plan a dinner sometime after the first of the year?...

I'll be home in 2 weeks for thanksgiving break if anyone wants to discuss an investigation. One thing I did notice on my trip on the 28th was when I came. the trees were still green and when i left.. over half of them were bare. It was kinda freaky... most likely due to the high winds that day.. but still... nature + place = freaky.

Yes, i have finally went, and had a great time!  We got some good footage, but only stayed 30 minutes after sunset.  Nothing scary at all then, but i'm sure it'd be different if it was pitch black.  About trying to get a permit to go in, me and my friend tried incredibly hard.  We called about every number linked to the Cook County Forest Preserve possible.  We got the number to the head hauncho, but he never was there.... or returned any calls(he had ALL of the information necasarry to.)  It got alittle bit wierd back in the woods by the foundation(no details), but other than that, great trip and great place.  I hope to join the GRP next summer.  I think we will send the final video to the sight(it's a documentary, not a ghosthunt).  It should be done around the 15th - 19th.  And maybe we could do something even more professional, and delve into the possibility of paranormal activity even further.  Nice being back home with my family!

Reading up more(ehh, i'm tired). Odd how it seems much of the trees outside the cemetery have leaves, but none on the inside.. Well, me and my friends smelled the smell of fire right behind the cemetery from the path that starts down by the lagoon.  No fires, no smoke, no houses in plain site.... And to add something i find not right.  As we were leaving today(sunday) at around 3:30-4, a (not to be racist, just describing the man) black cop who appeared to be late 30's to mid 40's was walking in, and asked us if "any kids were in there?" we told him yes, and he continued down to the cemetery.  While we were at our car packing equipment up, we see everyone who was in the cemetery walking out with the cop.  They weren't being arrested or anything, just getting kicked out.  I talked to a group of two guys who were just enterring(they didn't even get to go inside the cemetery) and they said that the cop told everyone the grove was "private property".  It was over an hour until sunset, and the cop just waited by the cell towers.  Just wanted to let you guys know, i've never heard of this happening before myself.

No way have you really......Yes did he have glasses and his eyes always twitched. Something about him. Like I almost think he is not real. He was two intrested in telling me nto go off the path and if I see any cars backing into the woods ignore it. He was really intersted in the dead tree.

Just a heads up, when you try to get a permit to visit the cemetery at night the only people who can issue such a permit would be the ones who "own" it. That would be the Real Estate Management Office of Cook County. You should never call the Forest Preserve District, any police departments, etc,. You will simply get the run around! For more details as to why the Real Estate Management Office owns it visit:

http://www.bachelorsgrove.com/archive/d ... /index.htm

From my experience being back there at night with a permit you will need a lot of money for the permit which also includes the fee for having a police officer with you which can also be a part of the deal if you even get a permit. The time I was back there with a permit was by invitation. That means I had nothing to do with obtaining the permit. It was all done by a film crew doing a documentary for something on cable. I never did hear anything back from those people and I just sort of gave up because of varying circumstances beyond my control.

So... to clear things up I personally can't get any permission to go back there at night. There are no strings that I can pull or anything of that sort. I would have to go along the same routes that everyone else does and that includes spending money...

But if people care to go back there during the day you should normally not have any problems. The police, however, are being put into a position that makes them claim a lot of things when telling people to leave the cemetery. Some claims are valid and some can outright get "them" in more trouble than you walking in the cemetery. I'm sure some officers know what I'm talking about if they are reading this... But don't take what I'm saying the wrong way. I appreciate the fact that they are trying to stop people from vandalising the cemetery. I just think there needs to be a balance with things....

wow, i actually went to the grove on halloween night and smelled the same exact thing in the same exact spot.. i was also there at night and if there was a fire anywhere it would have definitely been visible. i made a post about this about a week ago. kind of cool to hear that someone else experienced the same thing.

Yeah, i read that you said that, i would have forgotten to post that if you didn't say it, i was tired and didn't know what post it was in  .  And I know what you mean, if there was a fire, we would have known it... No houses close enough for the smell to be there, and it was just in a small single spot also.. very odd!  And yeah, the forest preserve does put you on a endless runaround for info.

Thanks for the info, Pete.  Does anyone know what town police patrol the area, by any chance?  It would probably be Midlothian and Cook County Forest Preserve.  Maybe Oak Forest, too...  Anyway, I will keep you updated Tee.

Since the cemetery is NOT a part of the Forest Preserves the police department that would watch over it would be the Cook County Sheriffs Office. But, the cemetery is surrounded by the Forest Preserves so it gets tricky.... The Forest Preserve police are essentially a part of the Cook County Sheriffs Office. So, from what I have observed first hand as well as monitoring the police radio traffic (which I can't do anymore at the moment) at night you will find that the Cook County Sheriff will patrol the area looking for people inside. When they find people they deal with them in various ways. At times they will call in the Forest Preserve Police but for the most part they handle it themselves.

NO OTHER POLICE DEPARTMENT patrols the cemetery. Unless there are rare cases that I haven't heard of, no other department nor any other agency should be or can be patrolling the cemetery.

Lately there are rumors of the police coming in at night on ATVs. I have only been able to see the tire tracks so far and I have not yet confirmed if it is the police. My best guess is that it really is the police. As for which department (Sheriff or Forest Preserve) I don't know. My guess is that they are using the Forest Preserve Police if/when it comes to paperwork. But then again they appear to be doing what they want when they want.

I have even been given a parking ticket out there during the day time for parking after hours.... Of course I contested it and won but the simple fact is they have been kind of shady over the years.

Okay, before I go off on a rant about how there needs to be an equal balance to things I shall end this  :?

The time I went and people were kicked out (the cop walked in as we were walking out), it was a Cook County Police guy.  He had a very large flashlight, and it seemed he was sticking out to find people at night?  And the night before, after sunset, i saw an undercover cop driving around the parking lot.

I have also heard that the police cant touch you in the cemetary its not in their jurisdition and sine its a abandoned you cant get in trouble. The guy I met there (recent post with a guy I met there) He siad he told police to Excuse my language just qouting him f-off and s-malepart and stuff and the cop just looked at him and said he cant do anything and the cop was your right.

Not particularly. I think it's pretty common place. I mean, if ghosts are real, and they have company, I'd imagine they'd want you to stay a little longer, you know, kinda like when company leaves and there's that period of "what now?"

I'm kinda repeating what everyone else is saying but I also felt like I was being watched when I went there during the day. I've only been there once, but something about the Grove makes me want to visit it again because I found myself looking behind me a lot

Yes, I went for the first time and now I'm looking forward to my next visit. Megan and I didn't experience anything but peace, not counting a peculiar camera battery problem. I've been reading about the place for years like Skunkyjaxx. Megan and I are now obsessed with the place. Fortunately, I live too far away to come more often; I'd hate to think I'd get the urge to come daily. The Grove really does pulls you in. The legends, lore and experiences of others are the most logical reason. Since I am religious, I'll offer another theory. Humans were created with a natural desire for eternal life beyond our present material world, and BG offers a preview of that life.
